Cervical Scan
Pregnancy Cervical Scan (14-40 Weeks)
The cervix length is the measurement of the closed part of the Cervix during pregnancy and can be assessed from 14-16 weeks onward.
This measurement is clinically useful in the prediction of pre-term birth (PTB).
The aim is to determine if the cervix is long enough to hold the pregnancy and to establish the risk of early labor or of late miscarriage.
Cervix length should be measured every two weeks between 14-24 weeks of gestation in women with a history of PTB and 20-24 weeks in women with no history of PTB.

More Information |
You may wish to have this scan performed for any reason, however we recommend to have it done when:
Usually we find a cervix that is measuring within normal limits (at least 25 mm). On a rare occasion that we find your cervix is shorter than that, we will recommend urgent review by your antenatal care provider.
There is no need for a blood test to accompany a Cervical Length Scan.
This scan is performed transvaginally (internal scan) for optimal visibility and accurate measurements, done on an empty bladder.
The Ultrasound Specialist will explain the procedure before your scan. You will be provided with a gown to respect your modesty in preparation for the internal scan. It will then involve insertion of the tip of the transvaginal probe, covered with a latex-free probe cover with a small amount of sterile gel into the vaginal canal. Our specialist will have to slightly move the probe to assess the relevant anatomy and to produce high quality diagnostic ultrasound images. You might feel mild discomfort during your ultrasound scan, however you can stop or pause the examination at any moment. Cervical Length Ultrasound Scan is regularly completed within 5 minutes. Our Sonographer will recommend the best course of action depending on the ultrasound scan findings.
You will get the results of the scan after the examination along with a hard copy of the report. We will also email you a digital copy of the report with relevant images within 24 hrs.
Ultrasound scan itself does not harm the pregnancy. Yours and your baby’s safety is one of our top priorities, therefore we strictly adhere to BMUS guidelines for the safe use of Diagnostic Ultrasound Equipment and scanning times, as well as respect ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
Depending how far along you are in your pregnancy, you may wish to book one or more follow up scans for you and your baby. If you are early in the pregnancy:

Fantastic ultrasound centre, the sonographer Ashleigh Austin was very knowledgeable and kind. The cost is half of that of Harley Street too. I had a query and she called me immediately to respond to my concerns. Highly recommended
