Ultrasound basics

What is an ultrasound scan?

An ultrasound scan is a painless imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves, not radiation, to produce real-time pictures of organs, blood vessels, muscles and other soft tissues inside the body. At London Private Ultrasound it is performed by an experienced sonographer who moves a small probe over the skin and views the images on screen as the scan happens.

Is an ultrasound scan safe?

Yes. Ultrasound is one of the safest imaging methods available, uses no ionising radiation, and has been used routinely in medicine for decades, including throughout pregnancy. There are no known harmful effects from a standard diagnostic ultrasound scan.

Does an ultrasound scan use radiation?

No. Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation, which is why it is considered very safe and suitable for repeated scans and for use in pregnancy. This is different from X-ray, CT and mammography, which do use small doses of radiation.

Does an ultrasound scan hurt?

A standard ultrasound scan is not painful. You may feel light pressure from the probe and the gel can feel cool, but the scan itself is comfortable for most people. If an area is already very tender, let your sonographer know and they will adjust their technique.

How long does an ultrasound scan take?

Most single-area ultrasound scans take around 15 to 30 minutes, although more detailed or multi-region scans can take longer. At London Private Ultrasound the appointment also includes a consultation to discuss your history and findings, so allow a little extra time.

What should I wear to my ultrasound appointment?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being scanned. You may be asked to lift or partially remove clothing over the scan area, and a gown or covering is provided where needed.

What can an ultrasound scan show?

Ultrasound can show the size, shape, structure and blood flow of many organs and tissues, including the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, thyroid, ovaries, uterus, testes, breast tissue, muscles, tendons and blood vessels. It can detect cysts, stones, fibroids, lumps, fluid, inflammation, tendon tears and abnormal blood flow.

Can an ultrasound scan detect cancer?

Ultrasound can detect many suspicious lumps, masses and abnormalities that may need further investigation, and it is widely used in cancer assessment. It is not a stand-alone diagnosis of cancer; a definitive diagnosis usually requires a biopsy, which London Private Ultrasound can arrange through its partner clinics.

What is a Doppler ultrasound?

A Doppler ultrasound is a specialised technique that measures the direction and speed of blood flow through arteries and veins. It is used at London Private Ultrasound for assessments such as carotid (stroke-risk) scans, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) checks, varicose veins and arterial circulation.

What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound?

2D ultrasound produces the standard flat, grey-scale images used for most diagnostic scans. 3D builds a still three-dimensional picture and 4D adds movement over time; London Private Ultrasound offers 3D pelvic imaging where it adds clinical value.

What is the difference between an ultrasound and an MRI or CT scan?

Ultrasound uses sound waves and is excellent for soft tissues, blood flow and real-time, radiation-free imaging. MRI and CT give cross-sectional images of deeper structures and bone; they are arranged by London Private Ultrasound through partner clinics when they are the more appropriate test.

Are there any side effects of an ultrasound scan?

There are no known side effects from a standard diagnostic ultrasound. You can eat, drive and return to normal activities immediately afterwards.

Can I bring someone with me to my scan?

Yes. You are welcome to bring a partner, friend or family member to your appointment at London Private Ultrasound, subject to clinic space, and a chaperone can be provided for any intimate examination.

Booking and access in London

Do I need a GP referral for a private ultrasound in London?

No. London Private Ultrasound does not require a GP referral for most private ultrasound scans, so you can book directly online, by phone or by WhatsApp. A small number of specialist pathways may benefit from prior clinical discussion, which the team can guide you through.

How quickly can I get a private ultrasound scan in London?

Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available at London Private Ultrasound, often within 24 hours, at both the Central London and St Albans clinics. Availability depends on the scan type and time of day.

Can I get a same-day ultrasound scan in London?

Yes. Same-day ultrasound appointments are frequently available at London Private Ultrasound for suitable, non-emergency concerns, with a written report typically issued within 24 hours.

How do I book a scan at London Private Ultrasound?

You can book online through the website, by calling 020 7101 3377, or via WhatsApp. The team can also help you choose the right scan if you are unsure which one you need.

Are you open at weekends?

Yes. Both London Private Ultrasound clinics are open 7 days a week, including weekends, with same-day appointments often available.

What are your opening hours?

London Private Ultrasound is open 7 days a week, typically 9am to 7pm. Please note that step-free and lift access at the Central London clinic is not available on Sundays.

Can I book a scan for today?

Often, yes. London Private Ultrasound regularly offers same-day appointments for suitable non-emergency concerns; call 020 7101 3377 to check availability for today.

Can I book by WhatsApp?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound accepts enquiries and bookings via WhatsApp, which many patients find convenient for quick questions and arranging same-day slots.

Do I need to register before booking?

No lengthy registration is required. You book your appointment directly, and your details are taken securely when you confirm your scan.

Can I book a scan for a family member?

Yes, you can arrange and pay for a scan on behalf of a family member. The person being scanned will give their own consent at the appointment, and a parent or guardian attends with anyone under 16.

What happens during my appointment at London Private Ultrasound?

You are greeted and have a short consultation about your symptoms and history, the sonographer performs the scan, and your findings are discussed with you on the day. A written report is then issued, usually within 24 hours, with guidance on any next steps.

Do you scan children?

London Private Ultrasound can scan some younger patients in selected circumstances; please call 020 7101 3377 before booking so the team can confirm suitability and arrange the right appointment.

Cost and payment

How much does a private ultrasound scan cost in London?

At London Private Ultrasound, private ultrasound scans start from £119, with most standard single-area scans priced at £219. That fee is all-inclusive of the scan, a consultation and a same-day written report. Health-screening, specialist and comprehensive packages range up to £2,999.

What is included in the price of my scan?

For standard diagnostic scans at London Private Ultrasound, the price is all-inclusive and covers the scan itself, a consultation with the sonographer to discuss your history and findings, and a written report, usually within 24 hours. There are no separate consultation or report fees for standard scans.

What is the cheapest ultrasound scan you offer?

London Private Ultrasound's entry price is £119, for example for an electrocardiogram (ECG) or a peripheral arterial Doppler with ABPI. Most standard single-area ultrasound scans are £219.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. The price quoted for a standard scan at London Private Ultrasound is the price you pay, inclusive of the consultation and written report. The price confirmed at the time of booking is the price that applies.

Can I pay later or in instalments?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers flexible pay-later options at checkout, so you can spread the cost of your scan or package.

Why do some prices say “from”?

Prices shown as “from” apply to scans where the final fee depends on how many areas or limbs are examined, such as Musculoskeletal or vascular scans. The exact price is confirmed when you book.

Is a private ultrasound cheaper than going to a private hospital?

Standalone private ultrasound at a dedicated clinic such as London Private Ultrasound is often more affordable than the equivalent scan at a large private hospital, because the fee is all-inclusive and there are no separate facility or consultant add-ons for standard scans.

Do you offer combined scans for better value?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers combined and multi-region scans, such as an abdomen and pelvic scan in a single visit, which are better value than booking each area separately.

Can I use private medical insurance for my scan?

Many patients self-pay for speed and convenience, and a clear written report is provided that can be shared with your insurer. Insurer cover and pre-authorisation requirements vary, so check directly with your provider before booking.

Can I combine a scan with blood tests?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers blood tests alongside ultrasound, and several health-check packages combine imaging, blood tests and consultations in one visit.

Results and reports

How soon will I get my ultrasound results?

At London Private Ultrasound, the sonographer discusses your findings with you on the day, and a full written report is typically issued within 24 hours. Priority and same-day reporting options are available.

Who writes my ultrasound report?

Your scan is performed and reported within a consultant-led, regulated clinical pathway by experienced sonographers, vascular scientists and specialists, with consultant or specialist review where appropriate.

Will the sonographer tell me the results on the day?

Yes. At London Private Ultrasound your key findings are explained to you during the appointment, and a detailed written report follows, usually within 24 hours.

Can I share my report with my GP or consultant?

Yes. Reports from London Private Ultrasound are written in plain English and can be shared with your NHS GP, a private consultant, your insurer or an overseas doctor.

What happens if my scan finds something abnormal?

If your scan shows something that needs further assessment, London Private Ultrasound explains the findings clearly and advises on suitable next steps, which may include further imaging, blood tests, a specialist consultation, or onward referral to your GP or a consultant.

Will I get images from my scan?

Yes. Your written report from London Private Ultrasound includes key images from the scan.

Can you send my report to my insurer or employer?

Yes, with your consent. Reports can be shared with an insurer, occupational-health provider or employer where you request it.

Are my results and report confidential?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and handles your personal and medical information securely and confidentially.

Can I get a same-day written report?

Yes. Same-day and priority reporting options are available at London Private Ultrasound; the standard turnaround for a written report is within 24 hours.

What if I need a second scan or follow-up?

If a follow-up or repeat scan is recommended, London Private Ultrasound will advise on timing and arrange it, and can coordinate further tests through partner clinics where required.

Where are your clinics located?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound welcomes patients of all backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations, and provides respectful, inclusive and non-judgemental care to everyone.

How to prepare for your scan

How do I prepare for an abdominal ultrasound scan?

For an abdominal ultrasound (liver, gallbladder, pancreas and related organs), you are usually asked not to eat for around 6 hours beforehand so the gallbladder is well seen; small sips of water are generally fine. London Private Ultrasound confirms exact preparation when you book.

How do I prepare for a pelvic ultrasound scan?

For a transabdominal pelvic scan you are usually asked to attend with a comfortably full bladder, typically by drinking water beforehand and not emptying just before the scan. For a transvaginal (internal) scan an empty bladder is preferred; the team advises which applies to you.

Do I need a full bladder for my scan?

A full bladder is needed for many transabdominal pelvic and bladder scans because it improves the view, but not for internal (transvaginal) scans or most other scans. London Private Ultrasound tells you exactly what is needed when you book.

Do I need to fast before a liver or gallbladder scan?

Yes. Fasting for around 6 hours is usually required before a liver or gallbladder ultrasound so the organs are clearly visible. You can usually take essential medication with a little water.

How do I prepare for a kidney or bladder scan?

For a kidney, bladder or urinary tract scan you are usually asked to arrive well hydrated with a reasonably full bladder. Specific instructions are confirmed at the time of booking.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for a thyroid or neck scan?

No special preparation is needed for a thyroid and neck ultrasound. You can eat and drink normally beforehand; wearing an open-necked top is helpful.

Do I need to prepare for a Musculoskeletal or joint scan?

No fasting or bladder preparation is required for Musculoskeletal scans of joints, muscles or tendons. Wear clothing that allows easy access to the area being examined.

Can I take my medication before a scan?

Yes. You can usually continue your regular medication before an ultrasound; if you are fasting for an abdominal scan, take essential tablets with a small sip of water. Check with the team if you are unsure.

Pregnancy scans

When can I have my first pregnancy ultrasound scan?

An early pregnancy or reassurance scan can usually be performed from around 6 weeks, when a heartbeat may be seen. London Private Ultrasound offers early viability, dating, growth, gender and reassurance scans throughout pregnancy.

Is an ultrasound scan safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation and has been used safely in pregnancy for many years, which is why it is the standard method for monitoring a baby's development.

What is an early pregnancy (viability) scan?

An early pregnancy scan, usually from around 6 weeks, checks that the pregnancy is in the right place, confirms a heartbeat where present and gives reassurance after symptoms such as spotting or cramping. London Private Ultrasound offers this scan with same-day availability.

What is a dating scan and when should I have one?

A dating scan confirms how many weeks pregnant you are and estimates your due date, and is typically performed between about 8 and 14 weeks. London Private Ultrasound offers dating scans without a GP referral.

When can I find out my baby's gender?

Baby gender can usually be determined from around 16 weeks of pregnancy. London Private Ultrasound offers a dedicated gender scan from that point.

How accurate is a gender scan?

From around 16 weeks, gender determination by ultrasound is highly accurate when the baby is in a clear position, although accuracy can be affected if the baby is not well positioned. London Private Ultrasound will advise if a brief rescan is needed.

What is a reassurance pregnancy scan?

A reassurance scan checks the baby's heartbeat, wellbeing and general progress at any stage of pregnancy, and is popular between routine NHS appointments. It is available at London Private Ultrasound with same-day appointments.

What is the NIPT (Harmony) test?

NIPT, such as the Harmony test, is a non-invasive prenatal screening blood test combined with an ultrasound that assesses the chance of certain chromosomal conditions. London Private Ultrasound offers NIPT with a scan from 10 weeks and 4 days of pregnancy.

Can I have a private pregnancy scan alongside NHS maternity care?

Yes. Many patients use London Private Ultrasound for extra reassurance, earlier dating or gender scans alongside their NHS maternity care, and the written report can be shared with your NHS team.

Do I need a full bladder for my pregnancy scan?

For early transabdominal pregnancy scans a fairly full bladder can help the view, while very early scans may be performed transvaginally with an empty bladder. London Private Ultrasound confirms what is needed for your stage of pregnancy when you book.

What is a growth and wellbeing scan?

A growth and wellbeing scan, usually from around 24 weeks, assesses the baby's size, growth, position and amniotic fluid. London Private Ultrasound offers this scan to support later pregnancy reassurance.

Women's health and pelvic scans

What is the difference between a transabdominal and a transvaginal (internal) pelvic scan?

A transabdominal pelvic scan is performed externally over the lower tummy with a full bladder, while a transvaginal scan uses a slim internal probe for a closer, more detailed view of the uterus and ovaries. London Private Ultrasound recommends the most appropriate approach for your symptoms and obtains your consent first.

Will my pelvic scan be internal?

Not necessarily. Many pelvic concerns are assessed externally, and an internal (transvaginal) scan is only used when it gives important additional detail, always with your consent and the option of a chaperone at London Private Ultrasound.

Can I request a female sonographer?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound can provide a female sonographer for intimate scans where requested; please mention this when you book so it can be arranged.

Can an ultrasound scan detect fibroids?

Yes. Pelvic ultrasound is an effective way to detect, measure and map uterine fibroids, and London Private Ultrasound offers a dedicated fibroid ultrasound scan for this purpose.

Can an ultrasound diagnose PCOS (polycystic ovaries)?

Pelvic ultrasound can show the polycystic ovarian appearance that supports a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), usually alongside blood tests and symptoms. London Private Ultrasound offers a PCOS ultrasound scan and matching hormone blood tests.

Can ultrasound detect ovarian cysts?

Yes. Ultrasound is the main test for detecting and characterising ovarian cysts, and London Private Ultrasound offers focused ovarian and pelvic scans to assess them.

Can ultrasound detect endometriosis?

Ultrasound can identify some features associated with endometriosis, such as endometriomas (ovarian cysts) and signs of deep disease, although not all endometriosis is visible on a scan. London Private Ultrasound can advise on the most suitable assessment for your symptoms.

What scan do I need for postmenopausal bleeding?

Postmenopausal bleeding should always be assessed, and a pelvic ultrasound that measures the endometrial (womb) lining is the usual first test. London Private Ultrasound offers a dedicated postmenopause pelvic scan and will advise on any further steps.

What is a follicular tracking scan?

Follicular tracking is a series of short pelvic scans that monitor the growth of ovarian follicles across the menstrual cycle to time ovulation, often used in fertility planning. London Private Ultrasound offers follicular tracking for those trying to conceive or undergoing treatment.

Can a scan check my fertility or ovarian reserve?

A pelvic ultrasound can assess the ovaries and antral follicle count as part of a fertility review, and is often combined with an AMH (ovarian reserve) blood test. London Private Ultrasound offers a fertility assessment scan and fertility blood tests.

Can I have a pelvic scan during my period?

Yes, a pelvic scan can usually be performed during your period, and for some assessments a particular point in your cycle is preferred. London Private Ultrasound will advise on the best timing for your specific scan.

What scan do I need for heavy or irregular periods?

Heavy or irregular periods are usually assessed with a pelvic ultrasound to look for causes such as fibroids, polyps or ovarian changes, often alongside hormone blood tests. London Private Ultrasound offers both.

What is a 3D pelvic ultrasound scan?

A 3D pelvic ultrasound builds a detailed three-dimensional view of the uterus, which can help assess the uterine shape and certain abnormalities more clearly than 2D imaging. London Private Ultrasound offers 3D pelvic scanning where it adds clinical value.

Men's health scans

What does a testicular ultrasound check for?

A testicular (scrotal) ultrasound assesses lumps, swelling, pain, varicoceles, cysts and other changes in the testes and surrounding tissue. London Private Ultrasound offers a focused testicular scan, with same-day availability for new or worrying symptoms.

What scan do I need for a lump in my testicle?

A new testicular lump should always be checked, and a scrotal ultrasound is the standard test to assess it. London Private Ultrasound offers prompt testicular scans and can arrange tumour-marker blood tests and onward referral if needed.

Can ultrasound detect a varicocele?

Yes. Ultrasound with Doppler is the usual way to confirm a varicocele (enlarged veins in the scrotum), and London Private Ultrasound can assess this as part of a testicular scan.

What scan do I need for prostate or urinary symptoms?

Urinary symptoms such as a weak stream or frequent urination are often assessed with a prostate and bladder ultrasound, which measures prostate size and how well the bladder empties. London Private Ultrasound offers this scan and can add a PSA blood test.

Do you offer PSA testing for prostate health?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers PSA and prostate-specific blood tests, including advanced risk tests, which can be combined with a prostate ultrasound and a GP consultation in a prostate health package.

What scan do I need for erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction can be assessed with blood tests for hormones and cardiovascular risk, and in selected cases a penile ultrasound. London Private Ultrasound offers an erectile dysfunction assessment package.

Breast scans

What is a breast ultrasound scan?

A breast ultrasound uses sound waves to assess breast tissue and is particularly useful for examining lumps and for younger women with denser breast tissue. At London Private Ultrasound every breast ultrasound also assesses the axilla (armpit).

Is a breast ultrasound better than a mammogram?

Neither is simply better; they are complementary. Ultrasound is especially useful for characterising lumps and for dense or younger breasts, while mammography is better at detecting certain microcalcifications and is the basis of screening. London Private Ultrasound performs breast ultrasound in-house and arranges mammography through its partner clinics where appropriate.

What scan do I need for a breast lump?

A breast lump is usually assessed first with a breast ultrasound, and London Private Ultrasound offers a dedicated breast lumps-and-bumps scan, with the option of a consultant breast surgeon review and onward biopsy if required.

Can you check my breast implants?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers a breast implant ultrasound that assesses implant integrity, signs of rupture and the surrounding tissue.

What is the One Stop Breast Clinic?

The One Stop Breast Clinic at London Private Ultrasound combines a breast ultrasound and a consultant breast surgeon review in a single visit, with mammography and any biopsy arranged through partner clinics where appropriate, so you can move from concern to answers quickly.

I'm under 40 with a breast concern — which scan is right for me?

For women under 40, breast ultrasound is usually the preferred first test because younger breast tissue is denser and is well assessed by ultrasound. London Private Ultrasound can add a consultant breast surgeon review if needed.

Who performs the breast clinic at London Private Ultrasound?

Breast scans at London Private Ultrasound are supported by consultant breast surgeon Mr Debashis Ghosh, who provides specialist consultation and review within the breast clinic pathway.

Heart and cardiology

What is an echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) is a scan of the heart that shows its structure, valves and pumping function in real time. London Private Ultrasound offers consultant-led echocardiography for symptoms such as breathlessness, murmurs or heart-function concerns.

What is the difference between an ECG and an echocardiogram?

An electrocardiogram (ECG) records the heart's electrical rhythm, while an echocardiogram is an ultrasound that images the heart's structure and function. London Private Ultrasound offers both, often together within a heart health check.

What is a Holter monitor?

A Holter monitor is a portable device that records your heart rhythm continuously over a period such as 24 to 48 hours or longer, to detect intermittent palpitations or rhythm problems. London Private Ultrasound offers Holter (ambulatory ECG) monitoring.

What scan do I need for palpitations?

Palpitations are commonly assessed with an ECG and, where the symptoms come and go, a Holter monitor, sometimes alongside an echocardiogram. London Private Ultrasound offers these tests with a cardiologist consultation.

I have chest pain — should I book a scan?

No. New, severe or ongoing chest pain can be a medical emergency and should not wait for a private scan; call 999 or attend Accident and Emergency immediately. London Private Ultrasound is for non-emergency cardiac assessment once urgent causes have been excluded.

Can I see a cardiologist privately without a referral?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers consultant-led private cardiology assessment without a GP referral, including consultation, ECG, echocardiogram and Holter monitoring as needed.

What is included in a heart health check?

Heart health checks at London Private Ultrasound combine elements such as a cardiology consultation, ECG, echocardiogram, blood tests and, in higher tiers, carotid Doppler, depending on the package chosen.

Vascular and Doppler scans

What is a carotid Doppler scan and who needs one?

A carotid Doppler scan assesses blood flow through the carotid arteries in the neck to evaluate stroke risk and arterial narrowing. London Private Ultrasound offers it for people with risk factors, a previous mini-stroke (TIA), or a neck bruit, or for reassurance.

I think I have a DVT — can I book a scan?

A suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT) should be assessed promptly, and London Private Ultrasound offers urgent DVT Doppler scans. If you also have chest pain or breathlessness, which can indicate a clot on the lung, call 999 or attend Accident and Emergency immediately.

What scan do I need for varicose veins?

Varicose veins are assessed with a venous Doppler ultrasound that maps the leg veins and checks valve function. London Private Ultrasound offers a varicose vein Doppler scan to guide treatment options.

What is an AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) scan?

An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) scan uses ultrasound to measure the main abdominal artery and screen for an aneurysm, defined as an aorta of 3.0 cm or wider. London Private Ultrasound offers AAA screening with same-day availability.

What scan do I need for leg pain when walking?

Leg pain when walking can indicate reduced arterial circulation and is assessed with an arterial Doppler scan and an ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI). London Private Ultrasound offers both as a vascular assessment.

What is a Heart and Stroke Risk Screening?

This is a combined cardiovascular screen at London Private Ultrasound that brings together several tests, such as a carotid Doppler, an ankle-brachial pressure index, an abdominal aortic aneurysm scan and an ECG, to assess overall stroke and circulation risk.

Musculoskeletal scans

Can ultrasound be used for joint and muscle problems?

Yes. Musculoskeletal ultrasound is excellent for assessing tendons, muscles, ligaments, soft-tissue lumps and joints in real time, and can be done dynamically while you move. London Private Ultrasound offers a wide range of Musculoskeletal scans.

Is ultrasound or MRI better for a sports injury?

Each has strengths: Musculoskeletal ultrasound is ideal for tendons, muscles and soft tissue and allows dynamic, real-time assessment and guided injections, while MRI is better for deep structures, cartilage and bone. London Private Ultrasound offers ultrasound and arranges MRI through partner clinics when needed.

What scan do I need for shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain, including suspected rotator cuff problems, is well assessed with a Musculoskeletal shoulder ultrasound. London Private Ultrasound offers focused shoulder scans with consultant assessment available.

Do you offer ultrasound-guided injections?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers ultrasound-guided joint and soft-tissue injections, including corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid injections, performed accurately under real-time imaging after appropriate assessment.

What scan do I need for a soft-tissue lump?

A soft-tissue lump or bump is usually assessed with a targeted Musculoskeletal ultrasound to characterise it and guide any next steps. London Private Ultrasound offers a dedicated lumps-and-bumps scan.

Do you offer sports injury and orthopaedic assessment?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers sports injury and orthopaedic clinics that combine Musculoskeletal ultrasound with consultant clinical assessment and a return-to-activity plan.

Can ultrasound check for nerve problems?

Yes. High-frequency peripheral nerve ultrasound can assess nerve entrapment, irritation and nerve masses, for example in conditions affecting the wrist or other nerves. London Private Ultrasound offers peripheral nerve ultrasound.

Specialist and advanced scans

Do you offer eye (ocular) ultrasound?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers a painless closed-eyelid ocular B-scan to assess symptoms such as flashes, floaters, retinal concerns or an eye mass. This is one of the more specialised scans not widely available at general ultrasound clinics.

What is shear-wave elastography?

Shear-wave elastography is an advanced ultrasound technique that measures tissue stiffness, expressed in kilopascals, alongside standard imaging. London Private Ultrasound offers it for the liver, thyroid, testes and breast where it adds clinical value.

What is a liver FibroScan or elastography?

Liver elastography, sometimes called FibroScan, measures the stiffness of the liver to assess fibrosis or fatty-liver change without a biopsy. London Private Ultrasound offers liver elastography as part of liver assessment.

Can you detect or check dermal filler?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers high-frequency ultrasound to map dermal filler, identify migrated or lumpy filler and assist planning before dissolving treatment. This is a specialist scan few ultrasound clinics provide.

Do you offer shear-wave elastography for the thyroid?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound can add shear-wave elastography to a thyroid and neck scan to provide quantitative tissue-stiffness data when assessing thyroid nodules.

What is a lymph node ultrasound?

A lymph node ultrasound assesses the size and structure of lymph nodes when they are enlarged or of concern. London Private Ultrasound offers single-area and extended whole-body lymph node assessments.

Blood tests and other diagnostic services

Do you offer blood tests?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers a wide range of private blood tests, from general health MOT panels to hormone, thyroid, cardiac, sexual-health and tumour-marker profiles, with many results available quickly.

Can I have a blood test on the same day as my scan?

Yes. Blood tests can be arranged alongside your ultrasound at London Private Ultrasound, and many health-check packages combine imaging and blood tests in a single visit.

How quickly do blood test results come back?

Many routine blood test results are available within hours to a few days, while specialist or advanced panels can take longer. London Private Ultrasound confirms the expected turnaround for your specific test.

Do you offer MRI, CT, X-ray or mammography?

London Private Ultrasound performs ultrasound scans and blood tests in-house. MRI, CT, X-ray and mammography are provided through partner clinics under a formal service agreement: the partner clinic carries out and reports the test, and London Private Ultrasound then discusses the results with you.

Can you arrange a biopsy if my scan needs one?

Yes. If your scan indicates that a biopsy is needed, London Private Ultrasound refers you to a partner clinic under a formal service agreement; the partner clinic performs and reports the biopsy, and London Private Ultrasound discusses the results and next steps with you.

Do you provide tumour-marker blood tests?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers site-specific tumour-marker blood profiles, each including the laboratory tests, a private GP consultation and a written report. These support monitoring and risk review and are not a stand-alone cancer diagnosis.

Can I see a private GP at your clinic?

Yes. London Private Ultrasound offers private GP consultations, which are also built into many of its health-check and organ-health packages to help interpret results and plan next steps.
