Private Full Body Ultrasound

A private full body ultrasound is a comprehensive imaging scan covering all major organ systems — neck (thyroid, salivary glands, lymph nodes, carotid), abdomen (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, aorta), and pelvis (bladder, prostate or uterus, ovaries, endometrium, fallopian tubes). London Private Ultrasound offers 3 packages from £600 to £1,200. The Plus tier adds breast, axilla, and chest wall imaging. The Premium tier adds a full cardiologist consultation with echocardiogram, ECG, heart examination, and history-taking. No radiation. Same-day appointments. No GP referral required.

Whether you want a comprehensive baseline scan, supplementary breast and chest screening, or a thorough body scan combined with specialist cardiology assessment — there’s a tier designed for you. All scans are performed by specialist Sonographers and Vascular Scientists. Premium-tier cardiology consultations are performed by our Cardiologist Consultant (not technicians or sonographers).

Question 1

What is a private full body ultrasound?

A comprehensive imaging scan covering all major organ systems from neck to pelvis — performed in a single appointment, with no radiation, and same-day verbal results.

A private full body ultrasound is a comprehensive scan that systematically images all major organ systems in a single visit. Unlike targeted scans (which focus on one organ), a full body ultrasound provides a thorough structural baseline of your entire body’s soft tissues and major vessels.

Our Standard package (£600) covers comprehensive imaging from neck to pelvis:

  • Neck: thyroid, salivary glands, neck lymph nodes, carotid Doppler
  • Abdomen: pancreas, abdominal aorta, liver, gallbladder, portal vein, hepatic artery and vein, spleen, both kidneys, bladder
  • Pelvis (men): prostate and testis
  • Pelvis (women): uterus, ovaries, endometrium, fallopian tubes, and adnexa

The Plus package (£800) includes everything in Standard plus three additional scans: breast ultrasound, axilla (armpit) ultrasound, and chest wall ultrasound. This is particularly valuable for women wanting integrated breast screening, or anyone with concerns about chest wall or axillary masses.

The Premium package (£1,200) includes everything in Plus plus a full cardiologist consultation performed by our Cardiologist Consultant — covering echocardiogram (heart ultrasound), ECG, heart physical examination, past medical history review, medication history review, family history review, and complete vital signs assessment.

The result is a complete structural assessment — and in the Premium tier, a full cardiac assessment by a specialist cardiologist as well — in a single coordinated appointment.

Question 2

How much does a private full body ultrasound cost in London?

At London Private Ultrasound, full body ultrasound packages range from £600 to £1,200. All prices all-inclusive — no hidden fees.

Standard

£600

Comprehensive head-to-pelvis ultrasound. Best for structural baseline and reassurance.

Plus

£800

Standard + breast + axilla + chest wall ultrasound. £200 add-on value.

Premium

£1,200

Plus + full cardiologist consultation with echo, ECG, examination. £400 add-on value.

All prices valid as of May 2026 · all-inclusive · no hidden fees · same-day appointments typically available · self-pay or insurance accepted.

Question 3

Who should consider a full body ultrasound?

A comprehensive ultrasound scan is appropriate for adults wanting baseline assessment, those with non-specific symptoms, family history concerns, or proactive screening preferences.

Comprehensive Baseline

Adults wanting a thorough structural assessment of all major organs as a reference for future scans. Particularly valuable in mid-life for establishing organ baseline.

Non-Specific Symptoms

Persistent fatigue, unexplained weight loss, mild abdominal discomfort, or other vague symptoms that lack a clear cause warrant comprehensive imaging.

Family History of Cancer

If a parent or sibling had liver, kidney, ovarian, breast, or other organ cancer — particularly before age 60 — proactive imaging is strongly recommended.

Women’s Combined Screening

Women wanting comprehensive body imaging combined with breast and axilla screening — the Plus tier is designed for this combined assessment.

Cardiac + Body Combined

Adults wanting comprehensive body screening plus specialist cardiology assessment in a single visit — the Premium tier provides this multi-disciplinary approach.

Frequent Travellers

People who travel internationally — especially to high-risk regions for hepatitis or parasitic infections — benefit from comprehensive baseline imaging.

Pre-Travel / Pre-Sport

Reassurance before extended travel, expedition, or extreme sports — particularly when medical access may be limited at destination.

Pre-Insurance Medical

Some life insurance and high-value private medical insurance policies request comprehensive imaging before underwriting. We provide formal medical reports.

Question 4

Which full body package is right for me?

Match your situation to the recommended package below.

I want a comprehensive baseline ultrasound only → Choose Full Body Ultrasound (£600). Comprehensive head-to-pelvis imaging covering neck, abdomen, and pelvis.
I want full body imaging plus breast/chest screening (particularly relevant for women) → Choose Full Body Plus (£800). Adds breast, axilla, and chest wall ultrasound to the standard scan.
I want the most comprehensive evaluation including specialist cardiology → Choose Full Body Premium (£1,200). Adds full cardiologist consultation with echocardiogram, ECG, heart physical exam, history-taking, and vital signs — performed by a Cardiologist Consultant, not a technician.

Still unsure? Call 020 7101 3377 — our team will guide you. No obligation.

3-5 daysReport

Integrated written report

Comprehensive written report combining all imaging findings (and Premium-tier cardiologist findings) — delivered as a single coherent document within 3-5 working days.

Why Comprehensive Imaging Matters

The case for proactive imaging

Early detection through imaging dramatically improves outcomes for many conditions. Many serious conditions are silent in their early stages.

~25%

UK adults with fatty liver

NAFLD (now MASLD) is the most common liver disease — usually silent and detectable only by imaging or specific tests.

Source: British Liver Trust
10-15%

Adults with gallstones

Many silent. Ultrasound is the gold-standard test — far more sensitive than blood tests or symptoms alone.

~7m

UK adults with kidney issues

Chronic kidney disease often silent. Renal ultrasound detects structural abnormalities, cysts, and stones.

~5%

Adults with thyroid nodules

Most are benign. Ultrasound differentiates concerning features and identifies which need further investigation.

Question 6

What’s the difference between ultrasound, CT, and MRI?

Different imaging modalities suit different clinical questions. Understanding the differences helps you choose the right scan.

UltrasoundSound waves · no radiation

High-frequency sound waves create real-time images of soft tissue and blood flow. Painless, no radiation, no contrast, immediate.

Best for:

  • Soft tissue organs (liver, kidney, thyroid)
  • Blood vessels and flow (Doppler)
  • Pelvic and abdominal screening
  • Pregnancy (only safe modality)
  • Repeat imaging (no radiation accumulation)

CT (Computed Tomography)X-rays · ionising radiation

Multiple X-ray images combined to create cross-sectional views. Fast, excellent for emergencies, but involves radiation.

Best for:

  • Bone and lung imaging
  • Trauma and emergencies
  • Detailed lung disease (cancer, infection)
  • Brain (stroke, bleeding)
  • Cancer staging

MRI (Magnetic Resonance)Magnetic fields · no radiation

Strong magnetic fields generate detailed images of soft tissues and brain. Excellent detail but slower, more expensive.

Best for:

  • Brain and spinal cord
  • Joint and ligament injuries
  • Detailed liver and pelvis (problem-solving)
  • Cardiac MRI for complex cases
  • Cancer staging (some sites)

In short: Ultrasound is the preferred first-line modality for routine screening of abdominal organs, vessels, and pelvic structures — due to safety, cost, immediacy, and lack of radiation. CT and MRI are reserved for specific clinical questions where ultrasound is insufficient.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions about full body ultrasound

Comprehensive answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is a private full body ultrasound?

A private full body ultrasound is a comprehensive imaging scan covering all major organ systems from neck to pelvis. London Private Ultrasound offers 3 packages from £600 to £1,200:

  • Standard (£600): head-to-pelvis ultrasound imaging
  • Plus (£800): adds breast, axilla, and chest wall ultrasound
  • Premium (£1,200): adds full cardiologist consultation
How much does a private full body ultrasound cost in London?

At London Private Ultrasound, full body ultrasound packages range from £600 to £1,200:

  • Full Body Ultrasound (£600) — comprehensive head-to-pelvis imaging
  • Full Body Plus (£800) — adds breast, axilla, chest wall
  • Full Body Premium (£1,200) — adds cardiologist consultation

All prices all-inclusive — no hidden fees.

What organs are scanned during the Standard full body ultrasound?

The Standard Full Body Ultrasound (£600) covers comprehensive imaging from neck to pelvis:

  • Neck: thyroid, salivary glands, neck lymph nodes, carotid Doppler
  • Abdomen: pancreas, abdominal aorta, liver, gallbladder, portal vein, hepatic artery, hepatic vein, spleen, both kidneys, bladder
  • Pelvis (men): prostate and testis
  • Pelvis (women): uterus, ovaries, endometrium, fallopian tubes, and adnexa

Some structures cannot be assessed by ultrasound — including the heart in detail, lungs, brain, and bones — these require different imaging modalities. The heart is included in the Premium package via cardiologist consultation.

What does the Plus package add?

Full Body Ultrasound Plus (£800) includes everything in the Standard package plus three additional scans:

  • Breast ultrasound — bilateral assessment of breast tissue
  • Axilla ultrasound — armpit lymph node assessment
  • Chest wall ultrasound — surface chest wall structures

This makes the Plus tier particularly valuable for women wanting integrated breast screening, or anyone with concerns about chest wall or axillary masses. Female sonographer available on request.

What does the Premium package add?

Full Body Ultrasound Premium (£1,200) includes everything in the Plus package, plus a full cardiologist consultation:

  • Echocardiogram — heart ultrasound
  • ECG — 12-lead electrocardiogram
  • Heart physical examination
  • Past medical history review
  • Medication history review
  • Family history review
  • Vital signs assessment

This represents a £400 add-on value over the Plus package and is performed by our Cardiologist Consultant — a fully qualified GMC-registered cardiology doctor, not a technician or sonographer.

Who performs the heart consultation in the Premium package?

The cardiologist consultation in the Premium package is performed by our Cardiologist Consultant — a fully qualified GMC-registered cardiology doctor.

This is a meaningful difference from imaging-only providers. The consultation includes specialist clinical assessment, echocardiogram interpretation, ECG interpretation, heart examination, and clinical history-taking — not just an imaging scan.

What is the difference between ultrasound, CT, and MRI?

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves — completely safe with no radiation, ideal for soft tissue and vascular imaging, real-time and dynamic.

CT (computed tomography) uses X-rays — excellent for bones, lungs, and emergencies but involves radiation exposure.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses magnetic fields — outstanding detail for soft tissues, brain, joints, but slower, more expensive, and unsuitable with metal implants.

For routine screening of abdominal organs, vessels, and pelvic structures, ultrasound is the preferred first-line modality due to safety, cost, and immediacy. See our comparison section above.

Do I need a GP referral?

No — none of our 3 full body ultrasound packages require a GP referral. You can book directly through our online calendar, by phone on 020 7101 3377, or via WhatsApp/SMS to 07414 165515.

How long does the scan take?

Duration varies by package:

  • Full Body Ultrasound (£600) — ~60 minutes
  • Full Body Plus (£800) — ~75-90 minutes (includes breast, axilla, chest wall)
  • Full Body Premium (£1,200) — ~2 hours (includes cardiologist consultation)

All packages include same-day verbal results and an integrated written report within 3-5 working days.

Do I need to fast or prepare?

Yes — fast for 6 hours before your appointment for clearest abdominal organ visualisation (water permitted). Drink 1 litre of water in the hour before arrival and avoid emptying your bladder, as a full bladder is essential for pelvic imaging.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Specific instructions sent on booking.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes — ultrasound is one of the safest medical imaging modalities available. It uses high-frequency sound waves with no ionising radiation, no contrast injection, and no known biological harm at diagnostic intensities.

The same technology is used safely throughout pregnancy. There are no contraindications and no recovery period.

Is the scan painful?

No — ultrasound is completely painless and non-invasive. A small probe with ultrasound gel is moved across the skin. Some patients feel slight pressure from the probe, particularly during deep abdominal imaging, but this is not painful.

Who should consider a full body ultrasound?

Adults wanting a comprehensive baseline assessment of all major organs, those with non-specific symptoms (fatigue, weight loss, abdominal discomfort) without clear cause, family history of cancer or organ disease, women wanting integrated body and breast screening (Plus tier), adults wanting body and cardiology assessment combined (Premium tier), executives and those who travel frequently, and anyone wanting reassurance through proactive screening.

Which full body package should I choose?

Choose based on your needs:

  1. Full Body Ultrasound (£600) — comprehensive imaging baseline (head to pelvis)
  2. Full Body Plus (£800) — adds breast, axilla, and chest wall ultrasound (particularly valuable for women)
  3. Full Body Premium (£1,200) — adds full cardiologist consultation with echo, ECG, heart examination
What happens if you find something concerning?

If your scan identifies a finding requiring specialist input, we issue a same-day formal report supporting referral to your NHS GP or to a private specialist of your choice — at no additional charge.

The report includes ultrasound imaging, written interpretation, and (in Premium) cardiologist findings — significantly stronger than imaging-alone referrals.

Are same-day appointments available?

Yes — same-day appointments are typically available for all 3 packages, including weekends. Our clinics are open Monday to Sunday, 9am to 7pm. Call 020 7101 3377 or message via WhatsApp/SMS to 07414 165515.

How does this compare to non-private screening?

The standard non-private pathway does not offer routine full body ultrasound for asymptomatic adults. Free imaging via the public health system requires referral and a specific clinical question — not routine baseline screening.

Our private packages provide comprehensive imaging with same-day appointments and same-day verbal results, where non-private specialist scans can take weeks to months. See our comparison table above.
