London Private Ultrasound offers a hand & wrist ultrasound scan to the male and female patients over 18 years old. Hand & wrist pain and discomfort following sports injuries or arthritis are the most common reason for having a hand and wrist ultrasound diagnostic examination.

 

Diagnosis via Ultrasound of hands and wrists

In this scan specialist will assess the main musculoskeletal structures in your hand. Ultrasound is a dynamic, fast, affordable, and very powerful diagnostic modality for evaluation and diagnosis of a wide range of hand medical conditions, inflammations or injuries such as:

 

Hand pain and discomfort
Joint effusion, Abnormal fluid collection or swelling in the joint
Carpal tunnel syndrome, Nerve entrapment or injuries

In this scan we will
  • Evaluate Joint spaces, bones and bursas, Tendons and Muscles, Ligaments, vessels and Nerve abnormalities in your wrist
  • Take your relevant medical history
  • Provide up to 10 minutes consultation
  • Explain all findings during and after your ultrasound scan
  • Write an official scan report after or within 24 hrs, with appropriate images included in the report
  • Recommend a follow-up ultrasound scan if necessary
  • Offer GP or specialist referral and a Blood Test if needed
  • Also recommend Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection, Hyaluronic Acid Injection, or Cortisone (Steroid) injections if they are necessary.

In some cases, we will recommend a relevant blood test, steroid injection, Hyaluronic acid injection, or Plasma-rich platelet injection.
There is no preparation for the wrist ultrasound scan.
Our Ultrasound Specialists will explain the procedure before your scan. When you expose your wrist, you will be guided to sit on the examination chair. A small amount of water-based gel will be applied to your wrist. Our specialist will move the probe on your skin to produce diagnostic ultrasound images. You will not feel any discomfort during your ultrasound scan. A wrist ultrasound scan is regularly completed within 15-20 minutes. Our Sonographer will recommend the best course of action, depending on the ultrasound scan findings.
You will receive your results verbally during and after the scan. However, the Sonographer will examine the relevant images after your appointment and prepare a written report after your scan or within 24 hours with any recommended actions. The report will be sent to you so that you can discuss the findings with your doctor, if required.
There are no risks or side effects associated with the Wrist ultrasound scan. Ultrasound does not use any radiation.
