Private tumour marker blood tests at a glance
London Private Ultrasound offers private tumour-marker (cancer-marker) blood test profiles in London and St Albans, grouped by body site — prostate, testicular, bladder, breast, ovary, cervix, liver, pancreas, colon, oesophagus, bile duct, gastrointestinal, thyroid, lung, melanoma, carcinoid and bone. Profiles start from £329 and each includes the relevant laboratory tests, a private GP consultation and a written report, with same-day blood draw and no referral. A comprehensive marker screen with a full-body ultrasound is £2,999. Tumour markers are used for monitoring and risk review alongside clinical assessment; they are not a stand-alone cancer diagnosis, and every result is reviewed and explained by a GP.

What they measure
What are tumour markers — and what they can and can’t tell you
Tumour markers are substances (usually proteins) that can be measured in blood or urine and may be associated with certain cancers. They are a useful tool for monitoring known conditions, supporting investigation of symptoms, and reviewing risk over time.
Monitoring & risk review
Tracking a known condition or treatment response, adding information when you have symptoms or a family history, and giving a GP-reviewed baseline for the future — particularly when combined with a clinical assessment and, where useful, ultrasound.
Not a stand-alone cancer test
A normal result does not rule cancer out, and a raised marker is often due to non-cancer causes. Tumour markers are not recommended as a stand-alone screen in people with no symptoms. That is why every result here is interpreted by a GP in the context of your history — never read in isolation.

Private vs NHS
Why patients choose private testing
The NHS provides excellent care; private testing is an option for faster access and convenience. Most tumour markers are not offered for screening on the NHS in people without symptoms. This comparison reflects typical pathways and may vary.
| London Private Ultrasound | Typical NHS pathway | |
|---|---|---|
| Referral | Not required — self-refer | GP referral, usually symptom-led |
| Access | Same-day blood draw, 7 days a week | Allocated, often symptom-dependent |
| Results | Typically 1–5 days, GP-reviewed | Variable |
| Interpretation | Explained by a GP, with a written report | Often by letter or follow-up |
| Add imaging | Ultrasound can be added the same visit | Arranged separately |

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Are tumour markers a cancer test?
No — they are one tool among several. Tumour markers can support monitoring, risk review and the investigation of symptoms, but they do not diagnose or exclude cancer on their own. That is why every result here is reviewed by a GP in the context of your history, and why imaging may be recommended alongside.
Can a normal result rule out cancer?
No. A normal marker does not exclude cancer, and a raised marker is frequently caused by non-cancer conditions. Results must always be interpreted by a clinician, not read in isolation.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly, and no NHS registration is required.
Who reviews my results?
A GP reviews and explains every result and provides a written report. Specialist referrals are arranged with your consent where appropriate.
How do I choose the right profile?
Choose by the body area you’re concerned about using the guide above, or book a GP consultation and we’ll advise based on your symptoms, history and risk factors.
How much do the profiles cost?
Profiles start from £329 and each includes the laboratory tests, a private GP consultation and a written report. The premium comprehensive tumour marker screen with a full-body ultrasound is £2,999.
Can I add an ultrasound?
Yes — you can add a targeted ultrasound of one area from £219 to any profile. Please note: If you would like to have a relevant ultrasound, you must book the ultrasound online or call 020 7101 3377 to book your appointment separately. The premium screen already includes a full-body ultrasound, and a heart health check can be added to it for £400.
What is in the premium comprehensive screen?
A comprehensive tumour-marker blood profile across all body sites (with no duplicated tests), a full-body ultrasound of the solid organs and a private GP consultation with a single integrated report — for £2,999.
How quickly will I get my results?
Most results are available within 1–5 days. Advanced NGS panels take around 4 weeks, and the Stockholm3 prostate test around 2 weeks. Your GP will tell you when to expect each result.
Do I need to prepare or fast?
Most tumour-marker bloods need no special preparation. The carcinoid profile uses a 24-hour urine collection. If any preparation is needed for an add-on, we’ll tell you when you book.
Are same-day appointments available?
Often, yes — blood draws are available 7 days a week, with same-day slots subject to availability.
Can I share my report with my own doctor?
Yes. Your written report is suitable for sharing with your NHS GP, a specialist or an insurer.
Do you support international patients?
Yes. Reports are written clearly and can be shared with doctors worldwide; no NHS registration is required.
Are you CQC registered and regulated?
Yes — London Private Ultrasound is CQC registered and ICO registered, with doctor-led clinical governance.
Where are your clinics and what are your hours?
27 Welbeck Street, London W1G 8EN and 54–56 Victoria Street, St Albans AL1 3HZ, both open Mon–Sun 9am–7pm.
