Whether filler or other injected material is present, its approximate depth, distribution and volume; whether a lump is fluid, soft-tissue swelling, or a more defined nodule; its position relative to surrounding structures; and changes consistent with a thread lift or biostimulator treatment. Comparison with the other side of the face where relevant.
What it doesn’t do
This is a diagnostic imaging appointment, not a treatment. It does not include dissolving (hyaluronidase) or any injectable treatment. It cannot identify the exact brand of filler used, and it is not a substitute for emergency care if you have any red-flag symptom listed above.

- If the scan supports a routine, non-urgent finding, you’ll leave with a clear explanation and a written report to share with your original practitioner or GP if you choose to.
- If dissolving or further treatment looks appropriate, we’ll explain why and support you in returning to your original treating practitioner, or your GP, with the imaging findings in hand — LPU is a diagnostic ultrasound clinic and does not itself administer hyaluronidase or other aesthetic treatments.
- If anything looks like it needs same-day medical attention, we’ll tell you plainly and help you get to the right place quickly.

Why independent checks are becoming more common
Non-surgical aesthetic treatment has grown quickly across the UK in recent years, and the government has been developing a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures under Section 180 of the Health and Care Act 2022, with dermal fillers and similar injectables expected to sit in the “amber” risk category requiring clinical oversight. Alongside that shift, more patients are choosing to have an independent, evidence-based look at what’s happened after a procedure, rather than relying on appearance alone.

Should I go back to my original practitioner instead?
If your concern is about their technique, the product they used, or you’re comfortable returning to them, that’s a reasonable first step and many aftercare policies include it. This scan is for when you want an independent assessment — before deciding what to do next, or alongside going back to your original practitioner.
What are the red-flag symptoms I should never wait to book a scan for?
Sudden severe pain out of proportion to the injection, skin turning white, mottled, dusky or blue, or any change in vision. These need immediate emergency care (999 or A&E) and contact with your original practitioner — not a scheduled ultrasound appointment.
Is the scan painful?
No. It’s a non-invasive ultrasound scan using gel and a handheld probe on the skin surface — the same painless technique used across our other ultrasound services.
How long does the appointment take?
Around 20–30 minutes for the scan itself, depending on how much area needs assessing, plus time for your history and the verbal explanation.
Do I need a referral?
No GP referral is required. You can self-refer and book directly online, by phone, or by WhatsApp.
Will I get a written report?
Yes. You’ll get a verbal explanation on the day, followed by a written report within 24 hours, which you can share with your original practitioner or GP if you choose to.
Can the scan tell me exactly what product or brand of filler I have?
No. Ultrasound can show that filler or other material is present, roughly how much, and where — but it cannot identify the specific brand or product name.
Can you dissolve the filler at LPU if the scan finds a problem?
No. LPU is a diagnostic ultrasound clinic and does not administer hyaluronidase or other aesthetic treatments. If dissolving or further treatment looks appropriate, we’ll explain why and support you in returning to your original practitioner or your GP with the imaging findings.
How soon after treatment can I have this scan?
There’s no fixed minimum — if you’re concerned, you can book. That said, some swelling and settling is normal in the first one to two weeks after most non-surgical treatments, so if your only concern is early swelling, it may be worth a short wait first; call us if you’re unsure whether to book now.
Is it suitable for lips, cheeks, jawline, tear troughs and nose?
Yes — this scan covers any facial area where a non-surgical aesthetic treatment has been carried out, including lips, cheeks, jawline, tear troughs, temples and nose.
What happens if the scan finds something that needs further action?
You’ll leave with a clear explanation of what was found. If it’s routine and non-urgent, you’ll have your written report to share as you wish. If further treatment looks appropriate, we’ll explain why and help you take the imaging findings back to your original practitioner or GP. If anything needs same-day medical attention, we’ll tell you plainly and help you get there quickly.
