Faecal Elastase-1 (FE-1) is a stool test that assesses exocrine pancreatic function — measuring how well the pancreas produces digestive enzymes.

Low levels indicate Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), common in chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer, and other chronic conditions. EPI confirmation may indicate need for pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT).

Sample is collected at home or in clinic and processed at our partner UKAS-accredited laboratory.

The 2-visit workflow ensures the GP and Pharmacist review actual results, not just history:

• Visit 1 (Day 1): All investigations performed (ultrasound, bloods, stool collection). Ultrasound report within 24 hours; bloods and stool in 1-3 days.
• Visit 2 (first Friday after Day 1): 30-minute face-to-face GP appointment combined with Pharmacist medication review — when all reports are ready.

The GP covers your ultrasound, blood, and stool results, and provides tailored advice or referrals if needed.

Yes — same-day appointments for Visit 1 (the tests) are typically available, including weekends. Our clinics are open Monday to Sunday, 9am to 7pm.

Visit 2 (GP appointment + Pharmacist review) is scheduled for the first Friday after Visit 1, when all reports are ready.

Comprehensive pancreas screening of this depth is not routinely available through the standard non-private pathway. The standard pathway typically tests Amylase only, often without Lipase or Faecal Elastase.
