Before your visit
How to prepare for your ultrasound appointment
Arrive with a comfortably full bladder for the external pelvic scan. The team will guide you through any internal examination and explain consent first.
1. Arrive with a full bladder
Drink one litre of water one hour before your appointment. Keep your bladder full for the transabdominal pelvic scan. Contact the clinic first if you have a fluid restriction.
2. Empty your bladder when asked
The team will ask you to empty your bladder before a transvaginal scan. It is performed only when appropriate and with your written consent. You can decline or ask to stop.
3. Prepare for breast and neck imaging
Breast and thyroid ultrasound usually need no special preparation. Wear clothing that gives comfortable access to the chest, lower abdomen and neck. Bring relevant previous reports.

What does the breast and axilla scan assess?

What does the thyroid and neck scan assess?
It examines the thyroid gland’s size and texture, nodules or cysts, and visible neck structures including cervical lymph nodes. Thyroid hormone function requires blood tests.

Does ultrasound use radiation?
Ultrasound uses sound waves and does not use ionising radiation. Tell the clinician if pressure over a tender area is uncomfortable.
Does breast ultrasound replace mammography?
No. Breast ultrasound and mammography provide different information. Continue to attend NHS breast screening when invited and seek clinical advice for concerning symptoms.
Does this package test thyroid hormone function?
No. Ultrasound shows thyroid structure. Blood tests assess hormone function and are not included unless separately arranged.
Are blood tests, a GP consultation or medication review included?
No. This £595 package covers the three listed ultrasound assessments and written reporting.
Can this package rule out cancer?
No. It is not a whole-body cancer screen and cannot provide an all-clear for every cancer or medical condition.
When will the findings and report be explained?

What happens if something is found?
The report may recommend GP review, specialist consultation, follow-up ultrasound or another investigation such as mammography, blood tests, MRI or biopsy.
