About Our Private Ovarian Ultrasound Scan

Expert-Led Ovarian Screening in a Calm, Private Setting

Our Ovarian Screening Ultrasound Scan is a non-invasive scan that primarily evaluates the ovaries and surrounding pelvic structures to detect any abnormalities, cysts, or early signs of cancer. Here's what is typically assessed during the scan:

✅ What is evaluated:

1. Ovaries:
Size and shape
Position
Volume (to assess for enlargement)
Presence of cysts (simple, complex, hemorrhagic, dermoid, etc.)
Solid masses or tumours
Blood flow using Doppler (may help differentiate benign from malignant lesions)

2. Fallopian Tubes (if visible):

Normally not seen unless dilated (e.g., due to hydrosalpinx or inflammation)

3. Uterus (included in most scans):
Size, shape, and any abnormalities (e.g., fibroids, polyps)
Endometrial thickness (especially in postmenopausal women)

4. Pelvic Free Fluid:
Presence of fluid in the Pouch of Douglas (cul-de-sac)
May indicate rupture of cysts, infection, or other pathology

🔍 Used for screening or investigating:

Ovarian cancer (especially in high-risk women)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Pelvic pain
Irregular or heavy periods
Infertility
Ovarian cyst follow-up
Family history of ovarian or breast cancer

🧪 Optional add-ons:

CA-125 blood test (used together with ultrasound in some ovarian cancer screening protocols)

You may choose to add a CA-125 blood test, a tumour marker sometimes elevated in ovarian cancer.
While not definitive on its own, it can support ultrasound findings in certain cases.

This test is not included by default and is only performed upon request or if booked online in advanced.
Speak to our team during your booking if you’d like to add it or book online.
