Follicular Tracking
Follicular Tracking Scan is an assessment of the size and growth of the follicles within the ovaries, how the progress correlates with where you are in your cycle or responsiveness to treatment stimulation. Also, we will assess the womb, lining of the womb, fallopian tubes and surrounding structures. This type of scan aims to ensure normal growth of the dominant follicle or stimulated follicles to appropriately time natural conception or any form of assisted conception (such as IVF), as well as to rule out any structural cause that might explain difficulty conceiving, recurrent miscarriages, generalized pelvic pain or any other related issue.

More Information |
This scan is usually performed every 1-2 days following your fertility specialist referral as part of your fertility check-up or IVF treatment to assess the growth of the dominant follicles or stimulated follicles correlating with where you are in your cycle or responsiveness to treatment stimulation.
There is a wide range of findings we may find during your Follicular Tracking Ultrasound scan assessment, aside for expected growth of the dominant follicle / stimulated follicles, the most common are:
Depending on the Ultrasound findings or referrer request, you may need a blood test to correlate the scan results better.
This scan is generally performed transvaginally (internal scan) for optimal views on an empty bladder.
The Ultrasound Specialist will explain the procedure before your scan. You will be provided with a gown to respect your modesty in the likelihood of an internal scan. It will then involve the insertion of the tip of the transvaginal probe, covered with a latex-free probe cover with a small amount of sterile gel into the vaginal canal. Our specialist will have to slightly move the probe to assess the relevant anatomy and to produce high-quality diagnostic ultrasound images. You may feel mild discomfort during your ultrasound scan; however, you can stop or pause the examination at any moment. The Follicular Tracking ultrasound scan is regularly completed within 5-10 minutes. Our Sonographer will recommend the best course of action, depending on the ultrasound scan findings.
You will get the results verbally after the scan, followed by a digital copy of the report with relevant images after or within 24 hrs.
Ultrasound scan itself is not considered harmful. Your safety is one of our top priorities; therefore, we strictly adhere to BMUS guidelines for the safe use of Diagnostic Ultrasound Equipment and scanning times, as well as respect the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
