Hyaluronic Acid / Arthrosamide Joint Lubrication Therapy

Arthrosamide is a long-lasting lubricant injection for arthritic joints, helping reduce friction and pain. Inside our joints, there is a lubricating gel. This is called joint fluid. Whenever a joint is damaged the quality of this joint fluid is getting affected. To restore the function of a joint Arthrosamide has been developed to give a long lasting lubricant to support a damaged joint. With less friction comes less heat, less inflammation and pain relief.

Aftercare and Results

After your Arthrosamid injection you can return home the same day. Some mild discomfort or swelling around the knee is normal for the first few days as the hydrogel integrates with the joint tissue. Applying a cool compress and avoiding strenuous activity will help ease any temporary soreness.

You should avoid heavy exercise or long walks for 48–72 hours, allowing the injected hydrogel to stabilise within the joint. Light activity such as gentle walking is encouraged after this period to maintain movement and support circulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Arthrosamid?

Arthrosamid is a long-lasting injectable hydrogel treatment for knee osteoarthritis. It cushions the joint, reduces friction, and relieves pain by forming a soft, permanent layer within the synovial tissue. Unlike temporary lubricating injections, it provides continuous relief for several years after a single procedure.

2. How does Arthrosamid work?

Arthrosamid is made from 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide and 97.5% water. Once injected, it integrates into the joint lining and acts as a natural cushion. This helps absorb shock, improve lubrication, and restore comfortable movement in knees affected by cartilage wear and inflammation.

3. What conditions can Arthrosamid treat?

Arthrosamid is designed for patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis who experience pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility. It can also help those with early cartilage wear, persistent swelling, or post-activity discomfort who want to avoid or delay knee replacement surgery.

4. How is Arthrosamid different from hyaluronic acid injections?

Hyaluronic acid injections offer temporary relief lasting a few months. Arthrosamid is a non-biodegradable hydrogel that remains in the joint for years, providing long-term cushioning and stability. It also reduces inflammation over time rather than simply replacing joint fluid.

5. Who is a good candidate for Arthrosamid?

Arthrosamid is suitable for adults with osteoarthritis who still have some joint space and wish to maintain mobility without surgery. It is ideal for patients who have not found lasting relief from physiotherapy, steroid, or hyaluronic acid injections.

6. Is Arthrosamid safe?

Yes. Arthrosamid has been clinically tested and CE-marked for medical use in Europe. Because it is biocompatible and non-degradable, it does not trigger immune reactions or allergic responses. The injection is performed under sterile, ultrasound-guided conditions for complete accuracy and safety.

7. What happens during the procedure?

The injection is carried out by a consultant under local anaesthetic. Using ultrasound guidance, the hydrogel is delivered directly into the knee joint to ensure precise placement. The procedure takes around 30 minutes, and you can walk out shortly afterwards.

8. How soon will I feel improvement?

Some patients notice relief within a few weeks, while for others it may take up to 8–12 weeks as the hydrogel gradually integrates with the joint lining. Improvement continues over time as the inflammation subsides and mobility increases.

9. How long do the effects last?

Arthrosamid is designed as a single long-term treatment that can last several years. Clinical studies have shown sustained pain relief and improved knee function for up to three years after one injection.

10. Are there any side effects?

Side effects are rare and usually mild. Some patients may experience temporary swelling, stiffness, or warmth around the injection site for a few days. Serious complications are extremely uncommon when performed under expert guidance.

11. Is there any downtime after the procedure?

Downtime is minimal. You can walk immediately after your injection but should avoid strenuous activity for 48–72 hours. Your consultant will provide detailed aftercare advice to support recovery and optimise long-term results.

12. Can Arthrosamid be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Arthrosamid can be part of a wider joint health plan including physiotherapy, strengthening exercises, or regenerative treatments like PRP or Shock Wave Therapy. Your consultant will create a personalised plan based on your needs and condition severity.
