Amenorrhoea means absent periods. The LPU assessment brings together pelvic ultrasound, the blood panel in your chosen package, a pharmacist medication review and an initial GP results consultation. It investigates possible explanations and helps you agree the next steps with a doctor.

Possible explanations include pregnancy, breastfeeding, hormonal contraception, stress, significant weight or exercise changes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, raised prolactin and reduced ovarian function. Differences in the development or structure of the womb or vagina can also be relevant, particularly when periods have never started. Your GP considers your history, scan and blood results together; further investigations may be needed.

LPU accepts patients over 18. This assessment is available for adults whose periods have stopped and adults whose periods have never started. Please tell us about your symptoms, medical history and any possibility of pregnancy before your appointment.

Yes, if you are over 18. Never having started periods is called primary amenorrhoea and may need specialist assessment. Younger patients should seek help through their GP: the NHS advises assessment if periods have not begun by 15. Do not wait until you meet LPU’s age policy to seek medical advice.

Standard costs £579 and Advanced costs £759. Both include the pelvic ultrasound appointment, their specified blood panel and blood collection, pharmacist review, one initial GP consultation and a comprehensive report. Referral letters and prescription-writing fees are included. Specialist consultations, additional investigations and subsequent GP reviews cost extra.

Standard includes luteinising hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, testosterone, oestradiol-17-beta, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and the free androgen index. The free androgen index is a calculated result using testosterone and SHBG.

Advanced includes everything in Standard plus total T4, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free T3, free T4, thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibodies. It costs £180 more. Thyroid tests are not included in Standard. Your GP can advise which investigations are appropriate for you.

Pregnancy testing is not included in either base package. An optional blood beta-hCG test costs an additional £100, making Standard £679 or Advanced £859 with this test. Both approaches are included within the 20-minute pelvic ultrasound appointment when clinically appropriate. The transabdominal scan uses a probe on the lower abdomen with a full bladder. The transvaginal scan uses a covered internal probe after you have emptied your bladder. The clinician explains the examination and obtains your written consent before the internal scan.

Yes. You may decline transvaginal scanning or ask for it to stop at any time. The clinician will explain the alternatives and any effect on the information available from the assessment. Drink one litre of water one hour before your appointment and arrive with a full bladder for the transabdominal pelvic scan. Wait until the team asks you to use the toilet and empty your bladder before the transvaginal scan. The internal scan takes place only when clinically appropriate and with your written consent. Bring your medication and supplement list, relevant reports and dates of any recent periods. Contact the clinic for individual blood-test instructions or if you have been advised to restrict fluids.

The pelvic ultrasound appointment takes 20 minutes. Pharmacist medication review may take 20–40 minutes. The initial GP consultation takes 20–30 minutes and is arranged separately once the reports are ready. Blood collection, check-in and any waiting time are additional, so please confirm your visit schedule when booking.

They are normally completed during the same clinic visit. Your GP consultation follows separately after the ultrasound, laboratory and pharmacist information is ready. The booking team will confirm the arrangements for your chosen branch.

The ultrasound specialist explains the findings after the scan. A formal written ultrasound report is emailed within a few hours or up to 24 calendar hours after the scan. This is separate from the later comprehensive GP report.

The laboratory normally sends the clinic its report within 24 calendar hours. Patients normally receive the laboratory report within 24–36 calendar hours of attendance, as soon as it is released. A laboratory delay can affect these timings and the date of your GP review.

Dr Babak Soleimanpour normally sees you on the first Friday after your initial clinic attendance, provided the required reports are available. This included consultation lasts 20–30 minutes and can be in person or by telephone. If the results are not ready, the clinic arranges the next suitable appointment.

Yes. You receive a formal ultrasound report that you can share with NHS and private healthcare professionals, alongside your other reports. The receiving clinician may request further assessment or investigations. The package does not guarantee acceptance of every result by every provider.

A specialist consultation arranged through this pathway costs £350. This is the consultation fee, not a charge for writing the referral letter. You may instead take your referral to an external specialist or your NHS GP. External providers set their own fees and access arrangements.

Each subsequent GP review costs £75 and lasts 20–30 minutes, in person or by telephone. This can be used to discuss further test results or specialist advice. The first GP review of the results included in your original package is already covered by its price.
