London Private Ultrasound (LPU) offers a shoulder ultrasound scan to male and female patients over 18 years old. Shoulder ultrasound is a dynamic, fast, and affordable scan for evaluation of rotator cuff injuries, shoulder impingement, or shoulder instability.

The LPU clinic is located in Central London just a few moments walk from Bond Street tube station.

We are open Mon-Fri and Sat-Sun. We are often able to provide same day appointments by prior booking and can also often accommodate evening appointments. GP referral is not required.

  • Shoulder pain or Discomfort
  • Evidence of frozen shoulder (Adhesive capsulitis)
  • History of shoulder dislocation
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Shoulder impingement
  • shoulder instability
In this scan, we will:
  • Scan your shoulder and rotator cuff
  • Take your relevant medical history
  • Provide up to 10 minutes of consultation
  • Explain all findings during and after your ultrasound scan
  • Write an official scan report after or within 24 hrs, with appropriate images included in the report
  • Recommend a follow-up ultrasound scan if necessary
  • Offer GP or specialist referral if needed
The main reason for having a shoulder ultrasound scan is the evaluation of major musculoskeletal structures and rotator cuff. They include:
  • ACJ evaluation (acromioclavicular joint)
  • Biceps Tendon
  • Deltoid Muscle Tendon
  • Infraspinatus Tendon
  • Subscapularis Tendon
  • Supraspinatus Tendon
  • Teres Minor Tendon
And the most common findings are;
  • Abnormal fluid or inflammation around the shoulder
  • Calcification within the muscle, tendon or joint
  • Capsulitis (swelling in the capsule)
  • Evidence of Arthritis
  • Impingement
  • Joint space abnormality
  • Tendon Rupture
  • Tendon Tear
  • Tendonitis (swelling of the tendon)
In some cases, we will recommend a relevant blood test, steroid injection, Hyaluronic acid injection, or Plasma-rich platelet injection.
There is no preparation for the shoulder ultrasound scan.
Our Ultrasound Specialists will explain the procedure before your scan. When you expose your shoulder, you will be guided to sit on the examination chair. A small amount of water-based gel will be applied to your shoulder. Our specialist will move the probe on your skin to produce diagnostic ultrasound images. You will not feel any discomfort during your ultrasound scan. A shoulder ultrasound scan is regularly completed within 15-20 minutes. Our Sonographer will recommend the best course of action, depending on the ultrasound scan findings.
You will receive your results verbally during and after the scan. However, the Sonographer will examine the relevant images after your appointment and prepare a written report after your scan or within 24 hours with any recommended actions. The report will be sent to you so that you can discuss the findings with your doctor, if required.
There are no risks or side effects associated with the Shoulder ultrasound scan. Ultrasound does not use any radiation.
Urgent health conditions can happen at any time of the day or night. In London Private Ultrasound, we offer emergency shoulder ultrasound service late evenings, during weekends, Saturdays, or Sundays. Please call 07414165515 to book your urgent shoulder ultrasound appointment now. (Terms and conditions apply)
Combining your ultrasound scan with one of our screening tests or Joint injections will give you a better picture of your health. We will recommend any beneficial screenings or injections when you book online and will also recommend any further tests, injections, or screenings after your ultrasound scan.
