Shoulder Ultrasound Scan- Two Limbs

London Private Ultrasound (LPU) offers a shoulder ultrasound scan to male and female patients over 18 years old. Shoulder pain is the most common reason for having a shoulder ultrasound diagnostic examination. In this scan, the specialist will assess the main musculoskeletal structures in your shoulder and rotator cuff. Shoulder ultrasound is a dynamic, fast, and affordable scan for the evaluation of rotator cuff injuries, shoulder impingement, or shoulder instability.

Please add your requested screening ultrasound, blood test, or health check-up while you are booking your ultrasound scan appointment.

  • Shoulder pain or Discomfort
  • Evidence of frozen shoulder (Adhesive capsulitis)
  • History of shoulder dislocation
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Shoulder impingement
  • shoulder instability
In this scan, we will:
  • Scan your shoulder and rotator cuff
  • Take your relevant medical history
  • Provide up to 10 minutes of consultation
  • Explain all findings during and after your ultrasound scan
  • Write an official scan report after or within 24 hrs, with appropriate images included in the report
  • Recommend a follow-up ultrasound scan if necessary
  • Offer GP or specialist referral if needed
The main reason for having a shoulder ultrasound scan is the evaluation of major musculoskeletal structures and rotator cuff. They include:
  • ACJ evaluation (acromioclavicular joint)
  • Biceps Tendon
  • Deltoid Muscle Tendon
  • Infraspinatus Tendon
  • Subscapularis Tendon
  • Supraspinatus Tendon
  • Teres Minor Tendon
And the most common findings are;
  • Abnormal fluid or inflammation around the shoulder
  • Calcification within the muscle, tendon or joint
  • Capsulitis (swelling in the capsule)
  • Evidence of Arthritis
  • Impingement
  • Joint space abnormality
  • Tendon Rupture
  • Tendon Tear
  • Tendonitis (swelling of the tendon)
In some cases, we will recommend a relevant blood test, steroid injection, Hyaluronic acid injection, or Plasma-rich platelet injection.
There is no preparation for the shoulder ultrasound scan.
Our Ultrasound Specialists will explain the procedure before your scan. When you expose your shoulder, you will be guided to sit on the examination chair. A small amount of water-based gel will be applied to your shoulder. Our specialist will move the probe on your skin to produce diagnostic ultrasound images. You will not feel any discomfort during your ultrasound scan. A shoulder ultrasound scan is regularly completed within 15-20 minutes. Our Sonographer will recommend the best course of action, depending on the ultrasound scan findings.
You will receive your results verbally during and after the scan. However, the Sonographer will examine the relevant images after your appointment and prepare a written report after your scan or within 24 hours with any recommended actions. The report will be sent to you so that you can discuss the findings with your doctor, if required.
There are no risks or side effects associated with the Shoulder ultrasound scan. Ultrasound does not use any radiation.

Absolutely amazing service. Sonographer checked absolutely everything while explaining what she was doing and seeing on screen at every step, really put my mind at ease when the NHS couldn't. I strongly recommend.

Very fast and great service. I was seen as soon as I walked through and the staff were welcoming. I was nervous as it’s my first time getting an ultrasound on my breasts but the doctor made me feel more at ease. Would definitely recommend.

I had an ultrasound for a worrying neck lump and wait time on NHS was so long I decided it was worth paying for a private scan. I was able to self refer. I saw Reza who put me at ease and was very thorough and talked me through his findings. I later received a detailed report. I paid £195 and think it was definitely worth it and wouldn’t hesitate to use this service again.

Absolutely first class. An extremely competent and patient friendly operation with the very best equipment, and available for urgent appointments. The doctor carried out the scan efficiently and explained everything, attentive to all my concerns and questions. The booking was easy, there was no wait and the doctor was kind enough to send me the report on the same day for an urgent hospital consultation. I used London Private Ultrasound because my consultant's hospital had no available slots and I am very glad that I did.

Doctor inspired confidence, was sympathetic, explained condition well - very happy with the service
Great clinic - clinicians who listen, are thorough and highly professional. Very little waiting time and both my diagnosis and procedure (Baker cyst drainage and steroid injections) were carried out to a high standard and everything dealt with in a few days. I have had very little after pain and made a quick recovery. I was hesitant about going private and spending the money - I am neither wealthy nor health insured - but it has been well worth it to be pain free and get on with my life. Highly recommended.
