We also have the option of a general lymph node check-up (full body Lymph Node scan). Please see different options at the top of this page.
Lymph node scan is suitable for you if you experience any of the following:
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Abnormal swelling in the neck
  • Neck pain and Discomfort
  • To determine the nature of the lumps on the neck
To find evidence of lymphadenopathy
  • Follow up on previous findings such as enlarged lump, reactive lymph node
  • A palpable enlarged lump
  • Detection of the cancer or other life-threatening diseases in the lymph nodes
  • Detection and differentiation between benign and malignant problems in the lymph nodes
  • To find enlarged lymph nodes
  • Cause of enlargement or inflammation of lymph nodes
  • Incidental finding of significant stenosis in the Carotid or vertebral arteries
In some cases we recommend to have some blood test such as Full Blood count., ESR and CRP.
Apart from moving all jewellery from your neck, there is no essential preparation for this scan. You should be able to eat and drink normally before the test. Take your medicines as normal unless you're told otherwise. If you're taking medicines to thin your blood, your doctor might ask you to stop them beforehand. Please inform the specialist if you have neck Arthritis.
You'll be asked to lie down on the couch. The clinician puts a lubricating gel on the skin by the lymph nodes. Then an ultrasound probe will be put on your skin. You may feel a little pressure when they move the probe over your skin but it still should be painless and comfortable. The clinician will write a digital report which will be sent to you via email. The report will include the images as well. This scan might take 15-20 minutes.
You will receive your results verbally after the scan. However, the Sonographer will examine the relevant images after your appointment and prepare a written report after your scan or within 24 hours with any recommended actions. The report will be sent to you so that you can discuss the findings with your doctor, if required.
There are no risks or side effects associated with the thyroid & neck ultrasound scan. Ultrasound does not use any radiation, which is why doctors prefer to use them to check on developing babies in pregnant women.
