Pelvic & Urinary Tract Ultrasound Scan combined uterus, ovaries, kidney and bladder assessment
A private pelvic and urinary tract ultrasound scan for pelvic pain, bloating, UTIs, abnormal bleeding, fertility concerns, kidney/bladder symptoms and reassurance.
What is a pelvic and urinary tract ultrasound scan?
It is a combined ultrasound assessment of the female pelvic organs and urinary tract. The scan checks the uterus, endometrial lining, ovaries, visible fallopian tubes, bladder, kidneys and ureters where possible. It is commonly used for pelvic pain, lower abdominal pain, abnormal bleeding, recurrent UTIs, urinary retention, kidney symptoms, ovarian cysts, fibroids and fertility-related concerns.
A focused scan for pelvic and urinary symptoms
The appointment is designed to connect symptoms with the most relevant pelvic and urinary tract findings.
Uterus and lining
Assesses uterine shape, fibroids, polyps and endometrial thickness for bleeding or fertility concerns.
Ovaries
Checks ovarian size, cysts, masses and PCOS-type appearances where visible.
Bladder and kidneys
Assesses bladder wall, stones, residual urine, kidney stones, infection signs and obstruction features.
Next-step guidance
Findings can guide GP review, blood tests, urine tests, follow-up scans or specialist referral.
Pelvic organs and urinary tract assessed together
The scan is tailored to your symptoms and clinical history, but commonly includes the following areas.

What happens during your appointment?
The scan may be performed in two parts: over the lower abdomen and, where appropriate, transvaginally for higher-quality pelvic views.
Arrive with a full bladder

Abdominal and optional transvaginal views
The sonographer scans over your tummy first. A transvaginal scan may be offered for clearer pelvic views, only with your consent.

Important clinical scope
Ultrasound is useful for many pelvic and urinary tract conditions, but some symptoms may require urine tests, blood tests, CT, MRI, cystoscopy, gynaecology, urology or GP review. Severe pain, fever, collapse, heavy bleeding, pregnancy emergency or symptoms that feel urgent should be assessed urgently through emergency medical services.
