Perimenopause usually starts in your mid-40s, and the average age of menopause in the UK is 51. A menopause health check is a good idea if any of these sound like you.
Do not wait for a health check if you have any bleeding after menopause, very heavy bleeding, or new pelvic pain: see your GP, or book a post menopause pelvic scan. Call 999 for heavy bleeding with dizziness or fainting.

A menopause health assessment looks at your symptoms, hormones and general health to work out where you are in perimenopause or menopause and what would help. Ours combines a pelvic ultrasound, a five-marker hormone blood test, a GP consultation and a pharmacist review of HRT options.
Yes, they can. Cortisol is a stress hormone, and poor sleep and stress during menopause can keep it raised, which encourages weight around the middle. Lower oestrogen and age-related muscle loss play a bigger part. Your GP can advise whether a cortisol test would help.
Usually your age and symptoms. NICE says women over 45 with typical symptoms can be diagnosed without a blood test. Under 45, or when symptoms are unclear, FSH is checked, and thyroid tests rule out mimics. Our check adds LH, oestradiol and a pelvic scan.
Irregular or missed periods, hot flushes, night sweats, poor sleep, low mood, brain fog and vaginal dryness are the common signs. Menopause before 45 is called early menopause, and before 40 premature ovarian insufficiency, so symptoms at 40 should be checked by a doctor.

Yes. A menopause blood test usually measures FSH, and a perimenopause test often adds LH and oestradiol. Because hormones change from month to month, one result is never read alone. Your GP interprets it with your age, symptoms and scan, which is what our check does.
Five markers: FSH and LH, which rise as your ovaries slow down; oestradiol, the main form of oestrogen, which falls; and free T4 and TSH, which check your thyroid, because an underactive thyroid can cause tiredness, weight gain and low mood that feel like menopause.
Hormone tests show where you are in menopause, but not what your womb and ovaries look like. The scan measures your womb lining and checks for fibroids, polyps and ovarian cysts, which matters before starting HRT and if your periods have changed.
Many UK private health insurance policies do not cover routine menopause care, because menopause is a natural life stage rather than an acute condition, though some insurers now offer menopause support. Check with your insurer before booking. We can give you an invoice to claim with.
On the first Friday after your tests, your GP goes through your scan and hormone results, explains your menopause stage and talks through HRT benefits, risks and options. A pharmacist prescriber then reviews your medicines and supplements. It can be in person or by video.

Yes. After menopause, a health check confirms your hormone levels, checks your thyroid and measures your womb lining and ovaries. If you have any bleeding after menopause, book a post menopause pelvic scan and see your GP promptly.
Perimenopause often lasts several years before your periods stop. Menopause symptoms usually continue for around four years after your last period, and for some women much longer. A menopause health check helps you understand your stage and the treatment options while symptoms last.
