When a one-breast scan is the right choice
This service is suitable when the concern is clearly limited to one breast.
One-sided lump
A palpable lump, bump or thickening affecting only one breast.
Focal pain
Persistent localised pain on one side, especially if it is new or worsening.
Follow-up imaging
Review of a previously identified one-sided benign finding or post-procedure area.
Single-side discharge
Assessment when nipple discharge is clearly from one breast.
Visible asymmetry
Change in shape, skin contour, local swelling or visible difference on one side.
Cost-conscious pathway
A focused option when both breasts do not require imaging.
Symptoms that should not be ignored
Any new breast change should be assessed. If symptoms are bilateral or you want routine reassurance, both-breast ultrasound may be more suitable.
New lump
Any new lump should be assessed even if it is painless.
Nipple discharge
Especially if spontaneous, bloody, clear or from one duct.
Skin change
Dimpling, puckering, redness or visible focal thickening.
Specialist clinical team
